Roberta “Bobbi” Leichty, 68, of Sitka, Alaska, died in Fargo, North Dakota surrounded by family on July 29, 2024.
Born Nov. 13, 1955, in the Philippines, to Doyle A. Miller and Frieda Ilene (Pryor) Miller while her father was in the Navy. They returned to Iowa in 1956, living in the Kalona area before settling in Clive, Iowa.
Roberta graduated from Valley High School in 1974. She attended Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas, where she met Anthony “Tony” Leichty. They were married Dec. 18, 1976, and lived in Wayland, Iowa.
In 1978 they moved to Prince Of Wales Island, to the town of Craig, Alaska. She took her first ETT class in 1979 and helped establish the Craig EMS. She became a paramedic through the first Ketchikan Fire paramedic course ever offered and completed her clinical/ride time with Seattle’s Medic One program.
In 1999 she moved to Sitka and took the position of Director for the Southeast Region EMS, where she continued her teaching, directing, and representing First Responders all over Southeast Alaska, a position she held until her passing.
In 2005 Roberta and Tony divorced. Although no longer married, they always put family first and remained friends until his passing in 2023.
Roberta loved her family, her career, traveling, reading, and writing.
Roberta is survived by mother-in-law: Marlene Leichty of Kalona, Iowa; sons: Jeremy (Amanda) of Fargo, North Dakota, and Jared (Patricia Stahl) of Billings, Montana; siblings: Debbie Miller Lovan (Peng) of Grimes, and Lori Miller Jantzi (David) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and grandsons; Caleb and Henry.
She was preceded by her parents: Doyle and Frieda Miller; husband: Tony; and father-in-law: Marion Leichty.
