Rebecca “Becky” Ann Belcher, 72, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a long courageous battle with Amyloidosis.
Becky was born July 15, 1952, in Iowa City, to Lewis and Joyce (Cox) Belcher.  She graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman, Iowa, in 1970, where she was active in band, choir, Thespians, French Club and the UN Club. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Gold Feather, was Vice President of FTA, the Style Editor for the yearbook and was honored to be the cover girl on the Hawk yearbook.  
Becky attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, and graduated with honors in 1974.  While a student, she was a member of the Chamber Singers.  She spent a semester in England which sparked her life-long interest in travel. 
She spent another semester at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where she developed her interest in politics.  
She got her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1977. 
After graduation, Becky was a staff attorney for the Polk County Legal Aid Society in Des Moines, Iowa, where she prepared appellate briefs and arguments and also supervised the paralegals in the unit.
From 1980 to 1987, she was a Senior Assistant County Attorney in Polk County Juvenile Division, where she provided supervision and training of new attorneys in the division.  During this time, Becky also argued a case before the Iowa Supreme Court.  
Becky was in private practice in Washington, Iowa, for a year before joining the Linn County Attorney’s Office in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as Division Head for the Juvenile Division.  She held this position from 1988 until her retirement in 2018. 
Becky was a strong advocate for children and was committed to their safety and welfare.  She was very compassionate about this responsibility and was well respected by her peers.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her brother: Robert Belcher of rural Harper, Iowa; her niece: Deidre Belcher of Fairfax, Iowa; and her beloved cat, Patty.  
The celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, where Becky was a member. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until time of the service.  Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established for the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
