A final regular-season home match for Mid-Prairie’s ranked volleyball team October 3 was all about the numbers.
The Golden Hawks, who swept Tipton in three sets, celebrated 2,000 career digs by senior Dakota Mitchell.
And they celebrated 1,000 digs by junior Jovi Evans.
And 100 wins by head coach Sherry Evans.
Mid-Prairie’s ninth consecutive sweep launched the eighth-ranked Golden Hawks into a late-season run toward the Class 3A regionals and a shot at the state tournament.
The Golden Hawks (23-5) began this week with a Tuesday night battle against Iowa City Regina, which is ranked No. 8 in 2A. They swept the Regals.
Monday, the Golden Hawks head to Tipton for the start of the River Valley Conference Tournament.
Mid-Prairie topped Tipton, 25-15, 25-18, 25-9, defeating the Tigers for the eighth straight time.
Mitchell dug in for 15 defensive digs and Jovi Evans had 11. But the defensive star of the night was freshman Jeorgia Evans, the younger sister of Jovi, who had a match-high 20 digs along with a block and 3 kills.
Mitchell ranks fifth in Class 3A with 345 digs. Jeorgia Evans is the highest-ranked freshman, 13th overall, with 269 digs.
Mitchell added 5 service aces.
Jovi Evans had another triple-double, adding 14 assists and a match-high 12 kills to her 11 digs.
Avery Helmuth had a match-high 16 assists.
Zoe Holstein led Tipton with 5 kills.
