Pleasantview Home plans renovations, additions

Posted

At the Kalona Rotary meeting on July 13, our Executive Director, Jeffrey Schmidt, and I presented some future plans in store at Pleasantview.

We are on the verge of breaking ground and beginning the renovation process that will enhance the Pleasantview community and provide additional opportunities for our residents.

It must be mentioned up front that while the plans are being finalized and drawn up, funding for the project remains the primary factor in timing for the project. Individual fundraising continues, and outside sources are being considered, solicited, and welcomed: grants, favorable loans and additional charitable giving.

Several components comprise the project. One is the renovation of the original part of Pleasantview, creating 28 Assisted Living (AL) apartments to replace 50 single rooms. This critical piece of AL is crucial in bridging that step between Independent Living (IL) and long-term nursing care.

Secondly, plans also call for the addition of a 16-bed Memory Care (MC) unit, to provide better care and services to those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Thirdly, our commercial kitchen will be relocated into a more central area of campus.

Other plans will include construction of a new stand-alone Friendship/Community Center; relocation of our physical therapy services; creation of six Medicare suites to provide short-term rehabilitative care to community members; other remodeling within the existing building; and the addition of an outdoor courtyard connecting the MC units to existing space.

The community is key to the success of this ambitious project, and we are grateful for the support offered to date…and will continue to ask for further community support.

Pleasantview is a five-star facility, which is the highest rating a nursing home can receive. It is due to the wonderful staff caring for our residents, simply put, and we are proud of the services we are able to offer, at the same time striving for more and better services.

More information will be coming. We do anticipate a start date in the near future, and we ask for your continued support.

Thank you!
