WASHINGTON
In the second and final step for the issuance of not more than $2,420,000 in General Obligation bonds, the Washington County Supervisors Tuesday finalized a four-year term through UMB Bank of West Des Moines, starting April 30, 2024 to 2028. Actual amount is $2,361,000. The effective interest rate for the debt payment will be 3.78 percent, previously cited as “a very good rate.” As part of the agreement, the county will receive $81,300 “up front” this month, a move that lowered the debt payment rate.
Funds from the bond issue will help finance several county projects which were detailed by the superiors in two previous meetings and include a new maintenance building.
Tuesday’s action also included providing a tax levy to cover repayment and cost of the issuance.
The board also approved an equipment purchase from Midwest Surplus, Inc. of Washington for a reconditioned 2004 CellXion concrete shelter building at the communications center site. Cost of the building is $45,000 with a $750 shipping fee to deliver it to Washington from Swisher, Iowa. The bid was the lowest of three with the other two coming in at $82,700 and $66,170.
Payment will be made in fiscal 2025. There also is a $2,920 fee for a crane from Townsend Crane for offloading and setting up the concrete communications building.
In other business, the board approved the employment termination for Carrie Omduff as Washington County Ambulance Supervisor-Medic L5, effective April 16; approved the renewal application for a Class C liquor license for The Exchange on Vine, LLC, Riverside from May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2025; and acknowledged and approved quarterly reports from the county recorder and the county auditor showing a balance of $24,120 for the former and $1,690,00 for the latter, for fees collection from January through March.
