Lone Tree hosts third annual Mike Kautz Invitational

With the weather finally being in their favor, Lone Tree hosted their annual track and field meet, the Mike Kautz Invitational, on April 8. 

For the Lion and Lady Lion seniors this was their final time competing at home and they were properly honored during this event. Those seniors were Joey Birtcher, Ethan Bockelman, Pietro Setti, and Lilly Mills. 

Girls Results 

Coming in first place with a score of 118 was Mid-Prairie. The Lady Lions ended their home meet with a score of 94 to place 3rd overall. 

 Once again Lone Tree excelled in the relay races. The four-person team of Cate Sexton, Vivian Zaruba, Ava Christofferson, and Rylee Shield won the gold in the 800-sprint medley with a time of 1:56. 

A similar team but with one difference of Zaruba, Shield, Christofferson, and Addison McCullough placed 1st in the distance medley in 4:38. This same team earned a runner-up finish in the 4x100m relay in 52.84.

When it came to individual events, Zaruba outran everyone to win the gold in the 800m run with a first-place time of 2:40. Shield also finished ahead of the pack for a first-place finish in the 200m in 28.61. Christofferson gave Lone Tree a runner-up finish in the 100m dash with a final time of 13.90. 

Other top five perfomancs for the Lady Lions came from Jazmine Nino, Hayden Yoder and Abby Zaruba. Nino placed 4th in the 400m hurdles in 1:31.58, Yoder placed 3rd in the shot-put event with her furthest throw being 31-04, and Zaruba placed 5th in the 1500m run in 7:19. 

Boys results 

Winning the team title on the boys side was Columbus, who earned 197 points. The hosting Lions scored 62 points which was good enough to place 4th in the final standings. 

The Lions were able to collect numerous runners-up finishes in front of a home crowd. Two of those second-place finishes came in relay races.

The team of Emmett Burke, Domonic Garcia, Ethan Bockelman, and Pietro Setti placed 2nd in the 800m sprint medley in 1:41. The same team then placed 2nd in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.18. 

Two Lone Tree runners placed in the top five in the 100m dash. Garcia was the highest-placing Lion, earning a runner-up finish in 12.18. Burke was not too far behind, placing 5th in 12.41.

Setti was also able to claim 2nd place in an event, claiming the runner-up spot in the 200m with a time of 24.44. 

The standout finish of the meet came in the 4x200m relay. The team of Burke, Garcia, Bockelman, and Setti were able to outperform the competition, claiming gold with a first-place time of 1:36.
