WELLMAN

As the curtain closes on another productive softball season, the curtain rises on postseason accolades and among the talented players on Mid-Prairie’s roster, there were three Golden Hawks who were chosen for All-Conference teams.

Bringing in first-team all-conference honors as an infielder in the River Valley South, Dakota Mitchell once again dazzled on the softball diamond this year for the Hawks.

Mitchell, a standout multi-sport athlete, was as solid as ever at shortstop and on offense, opposing teams knew they had to account for her in their game plan or else fall prey to her ability to produce game changing hits.

Finishing her junior year with a team best batting average of .402, Mitchell led the Hawks in hits (35) and was top five on the team in RBIs (14). Her three home runs were also tied for most on her team.

When it came to baserunning she went 19 for 20 on stolen base attempts, which is tied for third most in the conference. She also had great knack at reaching home, scoring a total of 35 runs, the fifth most in the conference.

When playing shortstop, Mitchell was a key component of this Mid-Prairie defense, nearly reaching triple digits when it came to helping secure an out, she ended the season with 97 assists, the most in the conference. She also was top five on the team in putouts (38).

Staying on the topic of defense, Sophie Miller was recognized for her impressive play and was chosen first-team all-conference in the RVC south division as a catcher.

Responsible for 69 putouts in her sophomore season, Miller had a fielding percentage of .959 and only had three errors on 74 total chances.

Also making a mighty splash on offense, Miller had a batting average of .329 and had the second most RBIs (21) on the team.

She ended the season with 23 hits, with three being home runs, which is tied for the third most in the conference. Scoring the second most runs (21) on the team, Miller also went seven for seven on stolen bases.

In her final year of Mid-Prairie softball, Gabi Robertson was an honorable mention all-conference.

The senior had a batting average of .307 and had the third most hits (27) on the team. She had 11 RBIs with her seven sacrificial bunts being tied for the fourth most in the conference.

Playing in the outfield on defense, Robertson tallied 31 putouts with a fielding percentage of .886.

Robertson was the one and only senior on this year’s Mid-Prairie softball team. Mid-Prairie ended their season in the first round of the playoffs, to cap off their year with a 7-24 record. Now in the offseason looking towards the future, look for this young Mid-Prairie team to continue to make positive strides towards success.
