Mediapolis interrupted the plans for a River Valley Conference showdown between Mid-Prairie and Anamosa in a Class 2A district championship game July 9.

Lance Luden pitched a 1-hitter, leading the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over Mid-Prairie in a 2A District 10 game played July 9 in Anamosa and ending the Golden Hawks’ season.

The Golden Hawks rallied to score a run in the seventh inning, but fell one run short.

Mid-Prairie finished its season at 19-10 and Anamosa (20-9) went on to defeat Mediapolis for the District 10 title.

Mid-Prairie junior Tatem Telfer, an Arkansas State commit, led the River Valley South in two batting categories (home runs, 5; RBIs, 31) and two pitching categories (strikeouts, 70; opposing batting average, 0.24). His .382 batting average ranked second in the league.

The Golden Hawks won 10 of their first 11 games this season and were ranked among the top 10 in the state in 2A earlier in the season. They topped the River Valley in conference wins.

Head coach Kyle Mullet has led Mid-Prairie to four consecutive seasons of at least 19 wins, plus three district championships.

After defeating Class 1A eighth-ranked Sigourney, the Golden Hawks lost their last two games.

Mediapolis, in winning its 21st game, scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the win.

Gannon Gunn drove in one of the Bulldogs’ runs with one of four hits against Mid-Prairie.
