RIVERSIDE

Highland’s speedy baseball baserunning sent Danville into a dizzy Monday night.

When Colten Sypherd and Logan McFarland both reached base in the fourth inning, they executed a double steal to put runners at second and third bases.

Then, a wild pitch scored both. As Sypherd raced home, McFarland rounded third base and did the same.

One inning later, William Dunbar singled, then stole second base, then third base, and scored on an error.

The Huskies’ 8-6 win featured 13 stolen bases. Dunbar, a junior, led the baserunning parade with four steals. Dunbar, who is 10-for-10 in steals this season, is tied for the lead in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North.

Highland’s victory snapped a two-game losing streak and began a week in which the Huskies will face Lone Tree, top-ranked Burlington Notre Dame and Pekin.

Dunbar had two hits and scored twice. McFarland and Ryker Miller also scored twice.

Freshman pitcher Hunter Seibel gave up five hits and struck out 6 in six innings. McFarland finished off the win in the seventh inning.

Bryce Hazelett scored two runs for the Huskies, and William Dunbar hit a double, stole two bases and scored a run.

Highland freshman pitcher Hunter Seibel struck out four and gave up three runs in a six-inning start.

Logan McFarland and Cash Cole had the only hits for Highland. Both also had stolen bases.

Winfield-Mt. Union pitchers Cael Phillips and Trevor Phillips combined on a 2-hitter and struck out 12. Cael Phillips also drove in two runs and scored twice.

McFarland, the starting pitcher for Highland, gave up just five hits and two earned runs, and struck out 3 in 5 innings.

West Liberty 6

Highland 0

Joseph Delgado, a freshman at West Liberty, struck out 10 in a 6-0 victory over Highland in a game played June 3 in West Liberty.

Highland sophomore Bryce Hazelett and freshman Landon Roling were the only Huskies to get a hit off Delgado, who is one of the top freshman pitchers in the River Valley South with 17 strikeouts in three starts and a 0.79 earned-run average.

Tytan Griffith had two hits and drove in a run for West Liberty, and Jake Underbakke scored twice.

Cash Cole and Tristin Richardson pitched for the Huskies, giving up a combined nine hits.
