A whirlwind of wins, that is one of the best ways to describe Mid-Prairie’s start to their newest baseball season and they looked to continue their winning ways when the Wilton Beavers came to town.

Taking both games in a River Valley Conference double header, No. 5 Mid-Prairie increased their winning streak to six in a row when they defeated Wilton, 9-5 and 2-1, on June 3.

This win keeps Mid-Prairie perfect in conference play at 8-0.

In game one, the Hawks were able to construct an 8-1 lead after some solid hits and nifty pitching. In the bottom of the fourth the Beavers were able to shave away at their deficit by scoring three runs.

A hope to ignite a comeback did not ultimately manifest for Wilton as they scored one more run in the fifth before being shut out the rest of the way.

Mid-Prairie had seven different players record at least one hit and they had seven Hawks record at least one RBI.

Making the start at the pitching position was standout junior Tatem Telfer. Pitching in four innings, Telfer retired eight Wilton batters while giving up zero hits and allowing eight walks.

Pitching in three innings was freshman Kale MIller. This was Miller’s varsity debut and he played well to close out the game, recording five strikeouts.

With momentum on their side the Hawks went into game two aiming for the sweep. A pitchers duel unfolded in the late game with Mid-Prairie being represented by junior Brady Weber and Wilton being represented by senior Landyn Putman

Unlike the first game the runs did not come quickly as the scoreboard continued to show goose eggs for both teams after five innings played.

It was Wilton who broke through first on offense, scoring a single run in the sixth but the Hawks answered the call and responded in the bottom of the sixth when senior Joe Hall hit an RBI single to bring home Bowen Burmeister.

Closing out the game to give Mid-Prairie the walk off win in the seventh was Dylan Henry. With the bases loaded, the reliable senior secured a hit that brought home fellow junior Blake Swart for the late-night win.

As a team the Hawks had seven hits with Burmeister leading the way with three. Hall and Henry lead the team with one RBI each.

Brady Weber pitched in six innings, recording six strikeouts, before passing the baton to his brother, Brooks Weber, to close out the game. Brooks got the win on the mound and recorded one strikeout.

Up next for Mid-Prairie (10-1) is another contest against Wilton (4-6) on June 6. but this time it will be a road game.
