The Golden Hawk boys competed at home for the first time this season and it was a winning effort for Mid-Prairie as they swept the medals and defeated conference foe Tipton, 166-182, on April 8.

“I was pleased with how we played overall.  We had a lot of good scores, JV through Varsity,” Mid-Prairie coach Kelby Bender said about his team’s performances against Tipton. “It was good to play a meet again after getting rained out last week. They took advantage of the nice weather and played well.”

On the varsity team sophomore Bryce Henry was the meet medalist with a score of 40 and fellow sophomore Clayton Davidson also scored 40 to be the runner-up medalist.

Bryce played really well with five pars and four bogeys. He had a couple of great par saves that kept his round going,” coach Bender said. “Clayton had another solid round with seven pars, giving him two medals in two meets.”

Other top performances for Mid-Prairie came from Drew Schlabaugh and Ace Peck. Schlabaugh scored 42 and Peck ended with a score of 44.

“Drew Schlabaugh got off to a slow start but after the first two holes he settled in and played well with three pars and a birdie four on the par five 6th hole and shot 42,” coach Bender said. “Rounding out the scoring was Ace Peck with a 44 with four pars.”

Leading the JV team to victory was Andrew Rath scoring 45, Elijah Statler scoring 46 and Lukin Rediger with a score of 47.

Up next for Mid-Prairie (1-1) is competing in a golf meet at the Wahkonsa Country Club in Durant on April 16.
