WELLMAN
Mid-Prairie struck quickly in its 3A girls tournament opener Saturday night.
The Golden Hawks (11-10) went ahead of Albia by nearly 30 points in the first half and cruised to a 57-29 victory in a first-round regional game.
Senior guard Nora Pennington, who was playing her final home game, and freshman Brooklyn Schneider each scored a game-high 13 points.
Mid-Prairie plays at 13th-ranked Charlton (19-3) at 7 Wednesday night in the Region 5 semifinals. A win would send the Golden Hawks to the regional championship Saturday against third-ranked Solon or Davis County.
Callie Huber added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the Golden Hawks. Schneider had a game-high 7 steals.
See this week’s edition of The News for more details and photos on Saturday’s win.
