Darla Kay Warner, of Iowa City, surrounded by family, left this world behind April 29, 2023, four minutes into her 59th birthday.
She was born April 29, 1964, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the daughter of Clifford and Cynthia Chitwood. She learned her work ethics well in the family motel and service station business. She attended school in Mountainair, New Mexico and NMSU, Las Cruces, New Mexico. She always had a heart for nursing.
After moving to Kalona in 2005, Darla worked at Mid-Prairie, was a CNA at UIHC and finally got her RN degree in 2012. She loved her work at the VA hospital, especially in the ICU. Patients and doctors loved her heart of caring for her patients.
She is survived by mother: Cynthia Snell and Gordon Snell; brothers: Joel (Lori) Chitwood of Rosewell, New Mexico, John (Rebecca) Chitwood of Bosque Farms, New Mexico and David (Virginia) Chitwood of Page, Arizona. She shared two children with Ronald Warner: Melissa Kay Warner and Aaron Duane Warner (Valerie); and granddaughter: Ali Kay.
She was preceded by her father: Clifford Chitwood; grandparents: Ezra and Vida Good and Jarvis and Ellen Chitwood.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 10 a.m., at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Kalona.
