WASHINGTON COUNTY, IOWA
REGULAR MEETING OF TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2024

At 8:30 am Chair Richard Young called the meeting to order in regular session, Courthouse Chambers. Items on the agenda included: public hearing re: the proposed Property Tax Levy for Fiscal Year July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Supervisors Jack Seward Jr., Marcus Fedler, Bob Yoder, and Stan Stoops were also present.
All motions were passed unanimously unless noted otherwise.
The Board voted to approve the agenda as published.
The Board received public comment from Washington County property owners Dave Miller and Russel Jenkins who voiced their dismay with regard to property taxes in Washington County which they described as always increasing. Citizen Sharon Edmund expressed hope that discussion would take place that would provide her with a greater understanding of a recent mailing that she received from the Washington County Auditor’s Office related to the calculation of property taxes.
The Board voted to open a public hearing regarding the proposed Property Tax Levy for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2024, and ending on June 30, 2025. Auditor Dan Widmer shared that notice of the public hearing had been published as required. Budget Director Cyndie Sinn emphasized that the public hearing was related to property tax levies only and she explained that another public hearing will be held on April 23, 2024, re: the proposed FY25 Washington County budget. Sinn provided explanations as to each line of the public notice and entertained questions from those gathered with Miller and Jenkins again expressing their displeasure with property taxes in Washington County. The Board voted to close the public hearing.
At 9:06 am the Board voted to adjourn.
