Washington County Public Health, in partnership with Washington County Hospitals and Clinics is asking community members to provide input about the health needs and concerns in Washington County. Anyone who lives, works, or visits Washington County is invited to complete the Community Health Assessment survey. The survey can be found at www.washph.com and on Washington County Public Health’s Facebook page. Paper copies of the survey, in English and Spanish also are available at Public Health, Washington County Hospitals and Clinics, and the Washington Public Library.
Following the completion of the Community Health Assessment survey, community organizations will meet to review feedback and select the top 3 health needs focus for the next five years.
The health status of community residents is not the sole responsibility of doctors, hospitals, and healthcare providers. Many entities influence the community’s health, from government agencies to businesses, schools to not-for-profit organizations and the general public. Every five years, local public health departments are required by Iowa Health and Human Services to lead the Community Health Assessment and Health Improvement Plan. The process requires community participation for making decisions about improving the community’s health and mobilizing support and resources. Involvement of and support from the many sectors of the community significantly improves and strengthens the local planning process.
