Tractorcade to roll through Kalona June 4

Posted

The Kalona Tractorcade is set to take place on June 4 at 5 p.m. with the starting point being at Sinclair Tractor off 14th street and finishing at the Kalona Sales Barn.

Dean Miller, who has been the organizer of the Kalona Tractorcade for three years now, is excited to see a tradition that started during Covid continue to bring the community of Kalona together for an afternoon of fun.

“It’s just a lot of fun to be a part of,” Miller said. “It’s very different from the Kalona Parade because there’s no businesses or advertisements, it’s just a whole lot of tractors.”

The Tractorcade will feature several different tractors ranging from multiple different eras of farming. Some tractors will be from the 40’s and 50’s while most of them will be from the 60’s. Alongside tractors there will also be old farm equipment that will be towed by some of the participants.

“People want to drive and show off their tractors in the parade not only just for fun, but to show the younger generations what tractors and farm equipment used to be like,” Miller said.

Miller can’t exactly say how many tractors there may or may not be in the Tractorcade this year, but he’s confident that it will be a large group. The first year that the Tractorcade was held, there were around 75 tractors, and the year following that, last year, there were around 100 tractors.

Miller hopes for a beautiful day and great weather so that all the tractors that participate can glow and shine in the sun. He really enjoys this amazing event that he organized and can’t wait to watch it and be a part of it all.

“Whoever comes, comes,” Miller said. “It’s just an afternoon to be fun and different!”
