KEOTA

The Hillcrest girls golf team continues to make positive strides in a season full of firsts.

This Raven squad are in the midst of their very first golfing season and they put together their best performance of the year on April 23 in a triangular at Lagos Acres in Keota

Competing in this triangular against Keota and English Valleys, Hillcrest’s team of six ended with a season best team score of 253. Both Keota and English Valleys did not have enough members to qualify for a team score.

“In the last two days, they have bested their team scores back-to-back plus all six girls who competed the last two days have set personal golf scores either last night or today,” Hillcrest coach Phil Schintler said about his team’s performance in their last two competitions, a dual against W-MU and the triangular in Keota.

Leading the way for the Ravens in the triangular was Brynna O’Rourke, who shot a 60, a new personal best.

Following close behind was fellow freshman Ava Miller. Miller carded a 62. On the leaderboards O’Rourke placed 3rd and Miller placed 4th.

The next highest placing Hillcrest’s golfers were sophomore Maria Portillo and Claire Withrow. Portillo and Withrow also finished in the 60’s with scores of 65 and 66 respectively.

Natalie Meganathan, a junior, and Izzy Frederick, a freshman, ended with identical scores of 70. For Meganathan this was her best score of the season.

Louisa-Muscatine 201, Hillcrest 271

Going against conference foe Louisa-Muscatine, the Ravens fell prey to the Falcons in a dual at Cedar Crest Country Club on April 25.

Three Ravens fired off in the 60’s to lead Hillcrest against the formidable Falcons.

Claire Withrow, Maria Portillo and Izzy Frederick shot 63, 66, and 69 respectively.

Brynna O’Rourke ended with a score of 73 and Ava Miller finished her day at Cedar Crest with 81.

Up next for the Ravens is a dual against the WACO Warriors at the Twin Lakes Golf Course on May 3.
