KALONA
Roger Weber was named Kalona Optimist of Year at the club’s annual meeting at the Ila and Warren Miller Homestead on Thursday, Oct. 3.
“Weber was selected as Optimist of the Year because he stepped forward in conducting the photo contest and managed the food supply for the concession stand this summer, as well as got photos of every meeting for the Optimists web page,” President Ron Slechta said.
Club charter members J.D. Boyd and Emil Schlabaugh were recognized for being members of the Kalona Optimists for 56 years.
Other club members recognized for years of membership were Meg Nagel, 32 years; Ron Slechta, 21 years; Bob and Sheryl Miller, 28 years; Dennis Phares, 15 years; Alvin and Julia Cramer, and Carl Deane Poe, 14 years; Donna Merck and Kenneth Wehr, 13 years; Al Coblentz, 11 years; Tyler Coblentz, 10 years; Clair Miller, 9 years; Jim Crowthers and Ryan Merck, 8 years; Andrae Naraine and Roger Weber, 7 years; Nicole Naraine, Ryan Schlabaugh, Branden Wieland, and Charlie and Mary Williams, 5 years; Laurie Lee Crowther and Ann Leary, 4 years; Mike and Emily Burns and Larry and Laura Geno, 3 years; Jon Eggert and Dale and Mary Jo Kraus, 1 year.
New members recognized were Jacob Slaubaugh and Tim Sullivan.
Friends of Optimists recognized were Kalona Auto Service, Kalona Tire, Kalona Coop Technologies, Beaty-Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona News, Kalona Builders, CS Auto Body LLC, Tuscan Moon, Allen Mitchell CPAs and Consultants, Kalona Chocolates, Kalona Veterinary Clinic, City of Kalona, Kalona Brewing Company, Kalona Golf Club, Shawn Powell/Southeast Iowa Insurance, Hills Bank & Trust Co, Statler Construction, and Miller Hybrids.
District Governor Sue Wunsch presented Ron Slechta with the past presidents’ plaque and pin. She also installed the following officers: Carl Poe, president; Jon Eggert, vice president; Sheryl Miller, secretary; Bob Miller, treasurer; and board members Larry Geno, Donna Merck, Deanna Poe, Dale Kraus, Roger Weber, and Ken Wehr.
Gov. Wunsch additionally presented the club with the Paul Mauer award.
