State Senator Kevin Kinney (D-Oxford) will serve on a new task force aimed at expanding Iowa’s clean, renewable energy and agricultural markets.
The Carbon Sequestration Task Force — a key recommendation of Iowa’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board — will study how carbon dioxide initiatives can promote economic growth and sustainability.
“I’m always looking for ways to expand opportunities for rural Iowans,” said Kinney, a farmer representing Keokuk, Johnson and Washington counties in the Iowa Senate. “Innovative processes will keep Iowa a leader in agriculture and homegrown, clean energy. If carbon has a big part to play in the future of jobs, economy and environment, Iowans can take a central role.”
Carbon sequestration uses technology to capture carbon dioxide produced from industrial processes, including power generation, and prevents it from being released into the atmosphere. Studies suggest such projects can improve the environment and create good jobs.
The task force will submit policy recommendations to be considered during the 2022 legislative session.
