U.S. House Iowa District 1 (1 seat)
Voters will select one candidate for the Republican primary; for the Democratic primary, Christina Bohannan is unopposed.

Mariannette Miller-Meeks (incumbent)

Where did you grow up?

My father was career U.S. Air Force, so we were stationed in many different states for different lengths of time, but Texas is my “home of record” when I enlisted in the US Army.

Current town of residence:
Davenport

Education:
I am a first-generation college student leaving home at 16 to work and enrolled at San Antonio Community College. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Texas Christian University and later earned my Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center and completed my residency in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa.

Occupation:
Physician, ophthalmologist

Political experience and civic activities:
I was the first woman president of the Iowa Medical Society. I ran for Congress unsuccessfully as a republican in 2008, 2010 and 2014. In 2010, Gov. Branstad appointed me as the Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health. I served in his administration for three years. In 2018, I was elected to Iowa Senate District 41, comprised of Wapello, Jefferson, Davis, and Van Buren counties. I was elected to Congress in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. I’ve been a Court-Appointed Special Advocate volunteer, Chief of Medical Staff at Ottumwa Regional, Rotary member and practicing Catholic.

Why are you running for Representative?
I'm running for re-election because I'm committed to fighting back against the radical left democrats and restoring common sense to the federal government. I am also committed to continuing the fight for America, as I have in the past, serving in the military. I will continue the battle to grow our economy, allowing manufacturing to thrive, defend our farmland, and protect our border.

What are the top challenges facing our country?
The top challenge for Iowans is the struggling economy and high prices created by the current administration. In Congress, I have led the discussion on how we can take the pressure off pocketbooks and put more money back into the hands of Iowans. One of the main drivers for economic stress is the price of medication. I have introduced and sponsored several pieces of legislation that would rapidly reduce the cost of prescription drugs. Iowans are also struggling with the rising cost of energy prices. I am committed to expanding our renewable energy sector, all while securing U.S. energy independence. We must lower prices at the gas pump, grocery store and in heating our homes. This includes a legislative fix for year-round E15. It is time that our country looks to Iowa as an energy state as we have excelled as a net exporter of renewable energy and demonstrated that our model is achievable nationwide with an "Any of the Above" approach. Finally, we must address the crime, drugs and people that are pouring through our southern border. This administration has made every state a border state and Iowans feel that every day. I have supported legislation to tackle border security, disrupt the supply of fentanyl coming across the borders, and stood with our partners in law enforcement to make sure they have all of the resources needed to secure our borders.

What are your goals as Representative?
My goals, should I be re-elected, are to continue my work on lowering inflation in food and fuel costs, lowering prescription drug prices, and to champion policies that bolster our economy and create opportunities for all Iowans. This includes supporting small businesses, promoting job growth, and advocating for initiatives that improve education and healthcare access. I have worked tirelessly on getting oral contraceptives over the counter. I am also a member of the Paid family Leave Working Group. It is vitally important that we work to address the struggles families face when it comes to the high cost of living and the rising childcare costs. Finally, we must work to address the rising national debt. $34 trillion in debt is a huge impediment to our economic growth and solvency. I will continue to support creating a commission to find a way to address our long-term debt situation.

Why are you running for Representative?

I am running to honor the Lord Jesus Christ, and my two sons, Jared and Jason, who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, respectively. Jared came back with PTSD, after almost daily fire fights, and Jason never came home. He was KIA on Good Friday, April 10, 2009.

I am running because I want to do my part to solve the HUGE problems in our nation. We are in such a critical stage of crisis with:
• The terrorist invasion of our border.
• Wasted funds of $175 billion in Ukraine (which has accomplished nothing more than the slaughter of 440,000 Ukrainians, and 150,000 Russians).
• Rampant lawlessness in the federal courts, DOJ, FBI, Homeland Security (DHS), FEMA, DOE, EPA, and the fraudulent Biden Administration.
• Threats to our constitutional rights, particularly in our First, Second, and Fourth Amendments.
• Lack of safety for our children and grandchildren in the womb, schools, medical facilities, and with drug and sex traffickers.
• Destruction of our energy independence.
• Horrific budget management and deficit spending.
• Gross lack of election integrity.
• Unparalleled lawlessness in our community because of police defunding and lack of speedy law enforcement.
• Farm landgrabs through bogus eminent domain, seizure, and wind turbine invasions, and ridiculous farm restrictions through radical environmental regulations.
• And the list could go on and on when you consider how are leaders have banished God from His rightful place in our government.

What are the top challenges facing our country?

• The lack of protection and provision for healthy families with a father and mother in the home. Our children and grandchildren are simply not safe with Democrats, and most Republicans.

• The majority of Republicans, like my opponent, Rep. Miller Meeks, are just weak and unprincipled, so they often vote with Democrats as part of the Uni-Party. As a result, Congress can never achieve practical results that will decisively stop the destruction of our country by the Leftist and Marxists.

• We are no longer a country because we no longer have a border, and this is an intentional and malicious attempt by the treasonous and criminal “Presidential“ administration to destroy our country and Constitution.

What are your goals as Representative, if elected?

• Take decisive, and strong constitutional action against the rebellious executive branch of government and to stop the lawless destruction of our country on the border, overseas, and within our courts.

• Drastically slash government spending and dramatically reduce the size of government by eliminating whole bureaucratic departments and agencies.

• Implement policies and defunding bills to protect our children and grandchildren from the onslaught of murderous, suicidal, mutilating, kidnapping, bullying, indoctrinating, addicting and warping influences in the schools, universities, media, communities, military, Planned Parenthood clinics, and hospitals.
