William “Bill” Schlapkohl, 92, of Lone Tree, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree.  Visitation will be held Friday, Sept.15, 2023, from 4-7 p.m., at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Lone Tree.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree.  Following the Mass, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church basement.  Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Riverside with full military rites provided by the Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414 at 1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue in memory of Bill.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

William Roy Schlapkohl was born Jan. 29, 1931, in rural Lone Tree, the son of Edward J. and Zora (Fesmire) Schlapkohl.  Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving one year in Korea.  He was a combat veteran from December of 1951 – September of 1953 attaining the rank of Corporal.  On Aug. 2, 1954, Bill was united in marriage to Virginia Irene Droll at St. Mary’s in Riverside.  Bill farmed in the Lone Tree area his entire life and worked different aspects with agriculture with a love of Oliver tractors.  He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree, V.F.W. Post 6414 in Riverside and the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457.  Bill went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in September of 2012 accompanied by daughter, Kathy Colbert.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife: Virginia of Lone Tree; his children: Jerry (Sue) Schlapkohl of Nichols, Kathy (Steve) Colbert of Riverside, Chris (Randy) Cole of Riverside, Susan (Larry) Schott of Riverside and Teresa Wyatt and friend, Jeff McDowell of Lone Tree; eight grandchildren: Stacey Cole (Mayko Caudel), Jeremy (Carrie) Cole, Jill Colbert, David (Sherri) Schott, Tom (Joslin) Schott, Heather Roller (Tony Motyko), Holly Roller (Ryan Wilson) and Bobbie Wyatt; 12 great-grandchildren: Cole, Giselle, Logan, Lynde, Stetson, Carter, Nolan, Paisley, Layne, Charlie, Davin and Bennett; and sister-in-law: Maxine Schlapkohl of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Henry Schlapkohl; sister: Helen Lenz; and nephew: Robert Lenz.
