Wellman searches for new skating rink manager

Posted

Following a series of public hearings, the Wellman City Council approved adjustments to its ordinances to bring its city code into compliance with recent changes in state laws.

One of the changes included language regarding the use of golf carts on city streets. Licensed drivers 16 years of age and older are allowed to drive a golf cart on city streets, pending council approval and adherence to city ordinances.

Council members conducted two closed sessions to review applicants for the position of Wellman Skating Rink Manager. The former Wellman rink manager, Teresa Lampe, retired October 1. A full-time city employee, Lampe had supervised the rink for many years.

The position entails working weekends from September through April and requires the flexibility to host private parties as scheduled. The job currently includes hours working for Wellman Parks and Recreation.

Following the closed sessions, council members said the applicants would not be named publicly and an offer of employment would follow only after the completion of a series of background checks.

In other business, council members approved $2,100 for new lighting in the city shop.
