SOLON

It was a showdown between two ranked teams in separate classes. The No.6 in Class 3A Solon Spartans came to town to battle the No. 5 in Class 2A Golden Hawks on June 4.

This game went the way of the Spartans, as Solon ended Mid-Prairie’s six game winning streak by defeating the Hawks, 4-0.

Solon took control in the top of the third when senior Brett White blasted the ball for a three-run home run to give the Spartans the lead. Mid-Prairie was unable to respond, ending the game with zero runs, while Solon added one more run to their score in the fifth.

The pitcher who orchestrated the shut out for Solon was junior Jackson Link. Pitching in all seven innings, Link ended the game with three hits allowed and seven strikeouts.

Starting the game for the Hawks on the mound was senior Brock Harland. Harland had four strikeouts and senior Carson Pence, who pitched in 2.2 innings, had two strikeouts.

While up to bat Tatem Telfer, Dylan Henry, Luke Traetow all recorded one hit each for Mid-Prairie

Wilton 14, Mid-Prairie 4

Getting some revenge after being swept by Mid-Prairie in a double header just three days prior, the Wilton Beavers got the win on their home diamond, defeating Mid-Prairie on June 6.

For Wilton (5-7) this River Valley conference win broke a three-game losing streak and for the Golden Hawks (10-3) this was their first conference loss of the season.

The Beavers were up big early, taking an 8-0 lead after two innings. The Hawks got on the board in the third with two scores, but Wilton responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. Both teams scored twice more before the mercy rule ended the contest early after the fifth inning.

When up to bat the Hawks were led by junior Tatem Telfer and senior Bowen Burmeister, with both recorded two hits each. Finishing with a team high two RBIs was senior Brock Harland.

Burmeister also pitched in one inning and ended with a team high three strikeouts and allowing four hits.

Up next for Mid-Prairie (10-4) is a road conference game against the Regina Regals (10-9) on June 13.
