If you own a house or mobile home, you may have already paid the first installment of your real estate or mobile home taxes.
The taxes became due Tuesday, September 1, and must be paid by Wednesday, September 30, to avoid a penalty.
Beginning October 1, unpaid taxes will be subject to a penalty of 1.5% per month, rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a minimum penalty of $1.
Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett encourages residents to avoid long wait times by mailing their payments to the Washington County Treasurer, P.O. Box 889, Washington, Iowa 52353. Payments may also be placed in the drop box near the west entrance of the courthouse or made online at www.iowatreasurers.org.
Payment statement coupons should be included with mailed payments. To avoid a penalty, envelopes must be postmarked by September 30. Metered mail dates are not accepted as a substitute for an official postal service postmark.
For more information, contact the Washington County Treasurer’s Office at 319-653-7721.
