Washington

With the election coming up soon, many voters will head to the polls on Nov. 3. Two seats on the Washington County Board of Supervisors are up for election: District 3 and District 5.

District 3 covers Riverside, Ainsworth, Brighton, Crawfordsville and part of Coppock. The race includes incumbent Republican Marcus Fedler and Democratic challenger JoAnn Whitmore.

Fedler has been on the board since winning a special election in 2021. During the primary, he defeated former Riverside mayor Bill Poch.

Whitmore was selected by the Washington County Democrats in August. This is her first time running for office.

The other seat up for election is District 5, which covers Wards 1 and 2 of the city of Washington.

Richard Young, who currently holds the seat, is not seeking another term and will retire at the end of the year. Young has been on the board since winning a special election in 2013.

Republican candidate Brendan DeLong and Democratic candidate Lynette Iles are running to succeed Young.

At the state level, voters in Washington County and parts of Johnson County will also choose their representative in Iowa House District 92. Incumbent Republican Heather Hora faces Democratic challenger Brittany Erickson.
