Our representatives need to take immigration seriously

Representative Miller-Meeks, quoting from your recent newsletter (12/15) on the subject of immigration, “There is still more work that needs to be done…[I] will continue to urge my colleagues to stop this lawlessness…” Since Congress and the executive branch both recognize that immigration is a problem, I am asking you questions concerning a comprehensive immigration policy.

The president has stated repeatedly that he is willing to negotiate on this issue. How often has the majority party of the House met with the president to work on this issue? The minority party in the House and the Senate majority have indicated they are willing to work with the majority party in the House to craft meaningful legislation to help solve this issue. How often have the House Republicans met with the House Democrats to solve this issue?

You brag that one of your amendments passed the House. Where is that amendment now? Is it part of a larger bill that is being debated in the Senate? Since you believe this is a must-do issue, how often have you met with the Democrats in the House to help develop meaningful legislation? Has any of your work on immigration dealt with the issue of visa status? Are you using any of your current vacation time to meet with constituents (Republicans and Democrats) to discuss their ideas on meaningful reform for immigration?

I urge you to work to resolve this issue instead of pretending it is the president’s problem and you will piecemeal bits of reform, which does little to influence the larger issue of immigration. You spent weeks of taxpayer dollars trying to elect a Speaker of the House, surely it isn’t too much to ask you to take immigration seriously and work to solve the issue since it is an American issue and not just a presidential issue or campaign issue.
