Born October 14, 1917 in Hazel Green, Kentucky, he was the son of L.D. and Nettie (Brewer) Bishop. As a child, he moved to Iowa with his family and attended high school in Kinross and Wellman.
Olen (Pete) Bishop, 81, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, in his home near Wellman following a sudden illness.
Services were Wednesday, September 29, in Powell Funeral Home, Wellman with the Reverend Gene Carpenter officiating. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery.
Born October 14, 1917 in Hazel Green, Kentucky, he was the son of L.D. and Nettie (Brewer) Bishop. As a child, he moved to Iowa with his family and attended high school in Kinross and Wellman.
He was united in marriage to Ferne Oldfield July 27, 1940 in Kahoka, Missouri. They farmed in the Wellman area.
Survivors include his wife, Ferne, three children and their spouses, Kenneth and Claudia Bishop of Wellman, Dennis and Kathy Bishop of Overland Park, Kansas, and Sandra and Larry Schauf of Wellman; seven grandchildren, Tammie Ibach of Las Vegas, Nevada; Shawn Schauf of Iowa City; Kristen Bishop of Wellman; Terri Adkins of Fargo, North Dakota; Jenny Engesser of Blue Earth, Minnesota; Christopher Bishop and Brian Bishop, both of Overland Park; five great-grandchildren, Courtney Schauf, Kelsey Engresser, Kyle Engresser, Colin Engresser, and Callie Adkins; and one brother-in-law, Daryl Oldfield of Wellman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Tressa Herr and Fern Leeper.
Memorials may be made to the Wellman Ambulance and Wellman Fire Department.
