Nine Mid-Prairie Large Group Speech events competed on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf for the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Large Group Speech Contest. Eight of the nine events earned Division 1 ratings.
Events that are nominated by at least two of the three judges that evaluated each performance will earn All-State recognition. This announcement will be made on Monday, Feb. 5. Events that are given All-State nominations will be honored at the IHSSA All-State Festival, to be held at the Iowa State Center in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, February 17. Only the top 5% of student performers in the IHSSA achieve All-State nominations.
Earning Division 1 Ratings at State Large Group Speech Contest: One Act Play - Accused of Comedy Jacob Carrillo, Harlie Gehling, Niah Leaton and Grace Puttmann. Ensemble Acting Brutally Honest Life Coach - River Gehling and Grace Puttmann.
Ensemble Acting - The Rebound - Haydon Bailey, Logan McClellen, Jeremiah Rempel, and Caroline Schrader. Ensemble Acting - It's Not You - Tabitha Fisher, Harlie Gehling, Wren Harris, and Daniel Rodgers. Musical Theatre - Aladdin - Haydon Bailey, Jack Greiner, and Jeremiah Rempel. Musical Theatre - Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog - Logan McClellen and Caroline Schrader. Group Improvisation - Gingah and the Two Blind Mice - Jillian Clark, Niah Leaton, and Toby Olson. Group Improvisation - Sweet and Spicy - Jacob Carrillo and Jack Greiner.
Earning a Division 2 rating: Readers Theatre - Rap-Punzel - Chris Burnham, Jillian Clark, River Gehling, Abby Kraus, Brock Lowenberg, Aliza Parks, Daniel Rodgers, and Diego Sanchez.
