Martha Evelyn Hall was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Keota, Iowa, the daughter of George Irwin and Ruby E. (Simerman) England. She attended Smith Creek Rural School through 8th grade and graduated from Wellman High School, and attended University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa. She taught rural school for 15 years and worked as a bookkeeper for Wade Ford Inc.

On May 24, 1946, Martha was united in marriage to Leo Roy Hall in rural Wellman. She has been a lifelong resident in the Wellman Community. Martha was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Wellman, the American Legion Auxiliary, Wellman Heritage Society, Ladies Embroidery Club and the Library Board Trustees. She volunteered in many capacities in Wellman. 

   She enjoyed many friendships and cherished her family.

Martha died on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Melrose Meadows Retirement Community in Iowa City, at the age of 97 years.
She is survived by her children: Thomas (Jeanette) Hall of Chesterfield, Missouri and Pamela (Tom) Moore of Iowa City; seven grandchildren: Barbara (Stephanie Ballantyne) Hall, Susan (Michael Donovan) Hall Donovan, Douglas (Julia Kolodziej) Hall, Matthew (Marissa Moore) Moore, Sarah Moore, and Suzanne Moore; three great-grandchildren: Evelyn Donovan, Victoria Donovan and Jordan Hall.

She was preceded by her parents; husband; an infant daughter: Cathy; two sisters: Ethelda Moothart and Mary Jane Schmucker Wilmoth;  and a brother: George England.

A private family graveside service will be held at Champion Hill Cemetery, rural North English, at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Wellman Heritage Society or Mid-Prairie School Foundation. Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is caring for Martha and her family.
