On November 2, Kalona Mennonite Church will host the event A Bowl of Soup and a John Deere Tractor, featuring author Larry D. Miller and his book, Larry’s Ride, From Farm to Finance: A Country Boy’s Journey.
Miller’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a book signing.
His autobiography follows his journey from farm life to a career in financial cooperatives. According to a description from Masthof Press, Miller accepted opportunities he never imagined, helping him develop his leadership style and commitment to serving others.
Through his career, his faith and financial experience came together to provide church members with financial services reflecting Christian stewardship and mutual aid.
Miller is the retired CEO of Everence. He and his wife, Liz Yoder, live in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where his two adult children and five grandchildren also reside.
He remains active in retirement through Community Mennonite Church and Harrisonburg Mennonite Church. Over the years, Miller has served on several boards, including those of MHS Association, Laurelville Retreat Center, Scholars Latino Initiative, NewBridges Immigrant Resource Center and his homeowner’s association.
Miller currently chairs the board of Valley Village, a member organization that helps people age in their homes. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering, yoga, walking, breakfast with friends and traveling.
Before the presentation, a soup meal will be served beginning at 6 p.m. If you have any other further questions, you can reach out to the Iowa Mennonite Museum in Kalona.
