Closing out the year with a much-needed win, the Ravens snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating the Cedar Valley Christian Huskies, 53-21, on Dec. 21.

This is the second time this season the Ravens scored over 50 points in a win and both of their 50-point performances occurring at home.

On their home court the Ravens tremendously outscored the Huskies in the first two quarters. Scoring points a plenty and not letting CVC find a semblance of offense, Hillcrest went into halftime with a staggering 41-3 lead.

Hillcrest sophomore Claire Withrow entered halftime with 22 points, matching her season high. Withrow scored two more points in the second half to end the game with a team high 24.

By the end of the third and most of the fourth Hillcrest rested a majority of its starters with the game already well in hand.

Hillcrest held a 34-point lead after three quarters of play. This led to a low scoring final frame, where Hillcrest recorded no points while the Huskies scored only one field-goal.

Wapello 49, Hillcrest 40

Hillcrest had one last chance to score a Southeast Iowa Super Conference win before the year ended, but it was not meant to be as the Wapello Arrows stood tall on their home court to defeat the Ravens on Dec. 19.

The Ravens were able to take the lead after outscoring Wapello, 14-12, in the first quarter. Not letting Hillcrest build upon its lead, Wapello won the second frame, but Hillcrest was still able to head into halftime with a slim one-point advantage.

Wapello ended up outscoring Hillcrest, 28-18, in the second half to take the lead and the win. This win was Wapello’s 15th consecutive victory over the Ravens. Hillcrest’s last victory against Wapello came in 2015.

Leading the Arrows in this SEISC win was sophomore Jakayla Nelson. Nelson scored a team high 16 points and secured seven rebounds.

Leading all scorers on the night was Hillcrest sophomore Claire Withrow with 20 points. Junior Delaney Shaw led the Ravens with 12 boards and junior Malia Yoder led the team with four steals.

Up next for the Ravens is a break for the holidays. When Hillcrest next plays it will be a new year and the first game will be a home contest against the Winfield-Mt Union (3-8) on Jan. 2.
