On Friday, April 8, from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highland Middle and High School students will work together to pack meals for the hungry. Early in the morning, a truck from Des Moines will be hauling ingredients over to the high school to prep for the meal packing.
“These meals will be shipped out to families and kids here in Iowa, as well as states across the U.S. and internationally,” said Highland Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor Gina Trower in an email.
“Highland FFA is running the event and has created unity throughout the building by asking every student and staff to purchase a lime green Meals from the Heartland event t-shirt,” Trower said. “The t-shirts were done by Elite Sports in Williamsburg, Iowa, and partial sponsorship of the t-shirts were covered by Syngenta. The three representatives from Syngenta who covered the t-shirt costs were Patrick Killelea, Kami Endress, and Zach Trower.”
