Highland’s high-powered softball offense delivered big in a postseason tournament preview Friday.

The Huskies topped Lone Tree 10-0 to win for the fifth time in six games.

The game featured senior pitcher Jessica Kraus’ 300th career strikeout, a home run by senior Abbi Stransky and a 27th consecutive stolen base by junior Sarah Burton.

The teams will meet again in the first round of the Iowa Class 1A softball tournament next Friday in a 7 p.m. game at Highland. Regional brackets in all classes were announced Friday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The winner of next Friday’s game will face Southeast Iowa Super Conference rivals Wapello or Winfield-Mt. Union in the Region 8 quarterfinals July 5 at Wapello.

Hillcrest opens play in the same region next Friday at Tri-County.

Mid-Prairie, which has defeated 2A No. 1 Regina Catholic and 3A No. 15 West Liberty in the last week, will head into WaMaC territory to open regional play in Class 3A.

The Golden Hawks will play at Center Point-Urbana on July 6 with a possible second-round game featuring the third-ranked team in 3A awaiting them in the second round. If Mid-Prairie defeats CP-U, it would face No. 3 Mount Vernon or Vinton-Shellsburg in the Region 6 semifinals July 8 at Mount Vernon.

Mid-Prairie, also in a tournament preview over the weekend, lost to CP-U 6-5 on Saturday in the Linn-Mar/Alburnett Tournament.
