Mid-Prairie’s 18th consecutive win against West Liberty began quickly in its Jan. 18 River Valley South battle.

The Golden Hawks scored 10 of the game’s first 12 points and cruised to a 61-48 victory.

Mid-Prairie’s triple backcourt of Ace Peck, Brady Weber and Bryce Henry combined for 45 points, nearly outscoring the Comets by themselves.

Peck scored a game-high 16 points and hit a game-high four 3-pointers. Weber had a game-high 10 assists and 15 points. Henry added 14 points.

The Golden Hawks have not lost to West Liberty since 2016 and swept this season’s two-game series.

After moving ahead 18-11 by the end of the opening quarter, Mid-Prairie never trailed after that. West Liberty (3-7) scored eight straight points to pull within six points, 51-45, with six minutes left in the game, but two free throws by Weber and then a fast-break layup by Peck put the game away.

Jayce McHugh led West Liberty with 14 points.

Conner Wiles of Mid-Prairie pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds, leading a 40-rebound game by the Golden Hawks.

Mid-Prairie’s game at Mount Pleasant on Monday night was canceled.

The Golden Hawks (6-5) play at Washington on Monday.

Mid-Prairie junior guards Ace Peck and Brady Weber both reached career highs in a River Valley Shootout loss to Bellevue last Saturday.

Peck scored 26 points, including hitting seven 3-pointers, and Weber, a point guard, had 11 assists.

Hunter Putman scored 29 points, leading the Comets to their eighth win in 11 games.

In true shootout style, Bellevue scored 31 points in the final quarter to run away with the victory.

Spencer Abbott and Dalton Clasen each scored 17 for Bellevue.

Mid-Prairie brothers Dylan and Bryce Henry each scored 16. Weber added 10 points for his second consecutive double-double effort.
