Last Wednesday afternoon, a three-story home in Lone Tree caught fire.

The structure fire occurred in the 400 block of E. Jayne St. at around 2:58 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5.

When crews arrived, they conducted a search of the home and found one occupant inside. Crews were able to safely remove the individual from the house, and he was later transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals for further evaluation.

Along with the Lone Tree Fire Department, Riverside, Hills and Nichols fire departments responded to the scene. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and remained at the residence for roughly two hours.

According to Lone Tree Fire Chief Matt Zadow, smoke was coming from the attic when crews arrived.

“No visible fire, but heavy smoke coming up from the attic. They found the occupant that was up on the third floor, close in the attic, and they got him removed. The fire was extinguished fairly quickly up in the attic, and the damage was fairly well contained in the attic portion.”

There were no reported injuries, and Zadow said the fire damage was mostly contained to the attic. He added that the rest of the home sustained some water damage, but it was not extensive.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is still under investigation.
