On Saturday morning, July 15, Kalona will experiment with “Cars & Coffee,” a meet-and-greet near the corner of B Avenue and 5th Street from 8-10 a.m. Those with unique, classic or modded cars that they’d like to show off are invited to bring their vehicles downtown, and those who love such things are invited to come out and admire the colors and chrome.
Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce Director Tonia Poole says that other communities hold meetups like this on a regular basis and draw perhaps 10-50 cars on a given day.
“We don’t really know what to expect, but we’re excited. We’ve got great beverage places here in Kalona, between the [Kalona] Coffeehouse and Harvest Nutrition, and then Best of Iowa is going to bring in hot breakfast items for that day,” she said. “Whether you’re into cars or not, you might want to come down for breakfast burritos.”
Breakfast burritos and hot egg sandwiches are a special treat for a town that lacks a true breakfast restaurant. What could be more fun on a Saturday morning than satisfying food, automotive eye candy, and conversation with those who share your interests?
Should it be successful, the Chamber hopes to host a similar meetup for bicyclists on August 19. Athletes, mark your calendars.
