KALONA
The Kalona Chamber of Commerce recognized all the volunteers, including committee members, at the annual banquet at the Wooden Wheel Vineyards and Winery, rural Keota, on Oct. 17.
Due to other commitments, President Shawn Powell and Chamber director Tonia Poole gave their messages and thanks to all the volunteers via a video. Vice President Hanna Hagen of Sinclair Tractor served as master of ceremonies.
Cathy Hettrick of Bettendorf was the winner of the quilt raffle.
Hagen thanked members of the Chamber staff, including director Tonia Poole, Heather Kemp, Judy Bontrager, Judy West, and newest employee Alaynna Schwartz.
She also thanked Larry and Laura Geno for their volunteer work on various projects. Lyndon Hershberger reported that the state fair booth was a success with record sales. Other state fair committee members included Grace Schumann, Nancy Roth, Karma Brokaw and Matie Hershberger.
Hagen also thanked those who volunteered at the Good Guys Car Show, the Ribbon Cutting and Membership Committee, the Kalona Days committee and volunteers, and other volunteers who helped throughout the year.
Hagen thanked the following board members for their dedicated service: Shawn Powell, President, Southeast Iowa Insurance; Megan Hardman, Vice President, Hardman Painting (new); Lyndon Hershberger, Past President, Kalona Chocolates; Grace Schumann, Secretary, Stitch N Sew Cottage; Kristine Burns, Treasurer, Hills Bank; Shauna McKnight, Kalona Brewing Co.; Karma Brokaw, JK Creative Woods; Tandy Greiner, CBI Bank & Trust; Tara Martin, Kalona Coffee House (new); Katie Karnes, Woodin Wheel Antiques; and Mikayla Fisher, Pleasantview.
Resigning from the board are Olivia Kahler, Kalona Public Library, and Hannah Hagen, Sinclair Tractor.
Ex officious members of the board who were recognized were: Nancy Roth, Kalona Historical Village; Matt Brown, Kalona Economic Development Group; Ryan Schlabaugh, Kalona City Administrator; Todd Peterson, Riverside Casino & Golf Resort; and Ron Slechta, The News.
Mike and Connie Vincent, owners of the Wooden Wheel Vineyards, gave a history of their family farm that has been converted into the vineyards, winery and event center.
