Lone Tree

The Lone Tree school board received construction bids for the H-VAC project that district voters will decide on in November.

The board received four bids for the construction. They were as follows: City Construction, $486,425.00; Miron Construction $648,468.00; Merit Construction $777,807.00; DCI Group $903,822.00.

City Construction and Miron Construction were selected by the project committee for a public interview at the board’s next meeting on September 16. Those two companies will be scored based on the committee’s technical review, the proposed cost, and the board interview. Those scores will be returned to the board, which will have final say on which proposal to select.

In the interview, company representatives for each bid will answer 11 questions relating to personnel, project experience, project approach, scheduling strategy and cost. Those questions will be sent to the companies beforehand. There will also be a question and answer period for the board following each presentation.

The awarded contract will be contingent on the passage of the bond referendum in November.

Public information sessions

After finalizing the details for the interview, the board discussed how to better get information to district voters concerning the details of the proposals.

Initially, superintendent Tyler Hotz had planned to have a drop-in station at parent-teacher conferences in October where voters could ask questions, but when board vice president Christina Magruder pointed out that the drop-in format would be inefficient, as only one person could have their question answered at a time and only that one person could hear the answer, discussion shifted toward a town hall.

Board member Vida Wollrab said it was unrealistic for board members to become subject matter experts on the HVAC project before the election, suggesting that members of the company selected following the September 16 interview should be present at the town hall.

Hotz is set to begin the scheduling process with the selected construction company once the selection process was concluded. The board requested that there be two sessions on different nights of the week to accommodate differing work schedules among voters.
