The major item for the Washington County Board of supervisors at its Tuesday meeting was the increasing cost of health care. The board approved a 7% increase in medical insurance costs.
While the county pays a large potation of the premiums for both single and family coverage, the increase will add $90,420 to the county`s share. During the discussion, it was noted that the county has budgeted for increases each year, though none have been as high as the 15% increase it experienced several years ago.
Health insurance is part of the regular benefits package offered to the county`s 320 employees, who will also see an increase in the amount they pay for coverage.
In other business, the board approved personnel changes for Delainey Parish in County Communications, moving her from casual part-time to full-time; Wes Love, moving him from part-time to full-time at $39.77 per hour: and Chelsea Owens, moving her from casual part-time to full-time at $39.77 per hour.
The board unanimously approved a reconstruction agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a primary road project involving Highway 218 between 192nd St and Vine Ave.
The board also approved an agreement between the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the county regarding private well construction and abandonment. The agreement covers permits, maintenance and construction costs.
Board members also indicated that they will further review employees` medical benefits.
