During the Hills City Council meeting on Monday, October 26, Trojans Youth Baseball board president Grant Pippert discussed possible upgrades to the Hills baseball complex.
Currently, the club pays $3,200 annually to use the baseball diamonds and also makes improvements to the fields.
Pippert proposed a three- to five-year agreement that would allow the club to put its rent money toward needed upgrades instead. He identified the fence as a priority, saying it would need to be upgraded before the club could consider hosting a tournament there.
When asked how much the club would invest in the fields, Pippert said it was difficult to estimate. He also said the club would like a mower to use for mowing and dragging the fields.
Council member Emily Hudachek supported the idea and suggested including a requirement in the contract for the club to invest a certain amount in the fields over the three to five years. Council member Henderson suggested the club also pay a stipend for using the fields.
Pippert said he would return to the club and have a proposed contract drafted for the city to review. The city would then send it to its attorney, with a goal of beginning the agreement in spring 2027.
A council work session is scheduled for November 24 at 5:15 p.m.

Mayor Tim Kemp reported that he was selected to serve on an Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) committee concerning possible school closures.
The fire department also provided an update on burning setbacks, reporting that open burning must be at least 25 feet from buildings, while recreational burning must be at least 15 feet from buildings and property lines.

The next Hills City Council meeting will take place on Monday, November 9, at 6 p.m. at the fire station.
