Nine-run first propels Clarksville past Lone Tree

A nine-run bottom of the first was enough to make the difference on Friday, as Clarksville defeated Lone Tree 9-0, ending the Lions’ season.

Clarksville consistently found holes in the Lion defense, shooting single after single through the Lion infield to build a long, sustained rally in the first.

While junior pitcher Abby Zaruba settled in after the rocky start, the Lion offense struggled to put anything together to mount a comeback.

The Lion offense had just two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch on the night, highlighted by a Zaruba double in the first inning.

Lone Tree’s defense surrendered nine hits and five errors in the outing. The Lions finished with a record of 14-10.

A lightning delay in the top of the first caused the game to be put on hold temporarily before Clarksville’s early avalanche.
