Highland, Lone Tree and Keota high schools have once again earned the prestigious Carrie Chapman Catt Award.

Presented by the Iowa Secretary of State, the award recognizes Iowa high schools that register at least 90% of their eligible senior students to vote.

The program was established by the State of Iowa and is administered by Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate.

More than 100 high schools across the state participated this year. Of those, 75 met the program's voter registration goal, while 49 schools achieved the 90% threshold required to receive the award.

The award is named in honor of Carrie Chapman Catt, the Iowa native and leader in the women's suffrage movement.

Since the program began in 2019, its goal has been to provide schools with the resources needed to conduct two successful voter registration drives while encouraging civic engagement among students.

With this year's recognition, Lone Tree has now received the award seven times, Keota three times and Highland twice.
