Lone Tree
For the past several Lone Tree City Council meetings, council members have discussed wages for the city's public works employees.
During the June meeting, the council approved a 3.5% wage increase for the public works department and a 7.3% raise for City Clerk Stephanie Dautremont.
However, at the July meeting, Public Works Superintendent Josh Forbes asked the council to reconsider the increase, saying nearby communities, including Hills, were paying higher wages despite having employees with less experience. Public works employees currently earn $24.48 per hour.
After lengthy discussion in July, the council agreed to revisit the issue at its August meeting.
At Monday's meeting, council members Roger Goedken and Matt Zadow proposed developing performance goals for the public works department. If those goals are met over the next several months, the council will review wages again in January and consider approving an additional base pay increase.
The proposal was approved unanimously, 5-0.
New fire hydrant
The council also revisited purchasing a new fire hydrant for the water treatment plant, an issue first discussed in January. At that time, Mayor Josh Spilman said the hydrant would be used "specifically to flush the wells."
After reviewing the estimated cost and discussing the project, council members voted to table the purchase until their September meeting.
Other business
The council reviewed water sample results from 501 E. Pioneer Road and 123 N. DeVoe Street following the recent boil order. The samples were reported to be safe, with no issues found.
Council members also set the city's 2026 trick-or-treat hours for Halloween night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Next meeting
The Lone Tree City Council typically meets on the first Monday of each month. However, because of Labor Day, the council approved moving its next meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
