IOWA CITY

A fall budget amendment for Fiscal Year 2027 was approved by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors following a public hearing held Sept. 17.

The amendment adds more than $13 million in spending to a $165 million budget that was approved in the spring. The fiscal year began July 1.

Dana Aschenbrenner, Finance Director, said the additional expenditures include jail referendum costs, property purchases, updated technology, and projects at the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm and Johnson County Conservation.

Aschenbrenner said there is about $24,000 in additional revenue.

The amended budget does not affect property tax bills.

Jail Community Forum

The final community session on the proposed Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Jail will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park in North Liberty.

A bond referendum for $94.5 million will be on the Nov. 3 ballot, a financial number that has drawn opposition from two of the five Johnson County Supervisors, V Fixmer-Oraiz and Mandi Remington.

The North Liberty session will include a presentation from Sheriff Brad Kunkel.

Board Action

The Board approved changing department financial appropriations for FY27.

The Board approved a pair of zoning applications.

The Board issued proclamations in honor of Welcoming Week (Sept. 10-19) and Constitution Week (Sept. 17-23).

Next Meeting

The Board’s next formal session is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 24.
