The Hillcrest Academy volleyball team dropped a defensive battle to the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on Tuesday in a 3-2 (25-21, 25-27, 23-25, 27-25, 15-11) thriller.

The Raven back row was scrappy, generating 80 digs across the match, but the front row struggled to keep up, hitting sub-zero while getting outblocked 10-2.

After winning razor-thin games in sets two and three, Hillcrest had a chance to close out the match in set four, losing the game in extra points. That momentum was enough to lift the Falcons to victory, as the visitors went on to win the tiebreaker set by four points.

L-M junior Nola White dominated the point of attack with 19 kills, while the Falcons controlled the net with 10 total blocks across five players.

Brynna Boshart’s 10 kills were a team-high for the Ravens, but she had 16 errors to go with the terminations. Annika Schrock and Ruth Witthoft were the only Ravens with positive hitting percentages on the night.

Libero Claire Miller led Hillcrest with 17 digs. Boshart, Schrock and Emma Parizek were right behind with 16 apiece.

The Ravens are set to take on North division preseason favorite Wapello, which enters the week undefeated in conference play.
