Madeline’s Coffee House opened in 2019 in Riverside. Three years later, owners Andy and Morgan Rodgers decided it was time for a change, and when the opportunity arose, they moved their business west on Highway 22, all the way to their new home in Wellman.

Located on a quiet little corner at 821 Second St, it is the perfect spot in Wellman to get some coffee and breakfast. Doors opened on Dec. 3, 2022, and business has been going strong ever since. 

The move to Wellman was more convenient than staying in Riverside for the Rodgers.

“We’re meeting new people [in Wellman] and getting our name more out there,” Morgan said. 

Madeline’s Coffee House offers a multitude of sweets and bakery items that vary each day. They may have anything from scones, brownies, banana bread, and of course, cinnamon rolls. 

They’re certifiably good. All the ingredients used are fresh and the pastries are homemade.

“The baked goods are fresh baked here -- there’s not pre-mixed anything -- so she makes everything from scratch. If you want to special order things, you can.  She’ll make you a whole cake,” Andy said. “Our coffee beans are locally roasted by Café Del Sol in Iowa City, so they’re generally never more than a week old. We use Dan and Debbie’s Creamery for our milk and cream.”

Consensus says their most requested items are the biscuits and gravy, along with the raspberry cream cheese rolls. Morgan’s favorite thing to make would probably be the scones, according to her.

“It’s just what I’m feeling to make for the day, Morgan said. 

The coffee house is named after Morgan’s grandmother, who passed away in 2016. 

“She started baking with her grandma and she always liked to bake,” Andy said of Morgan.

The Rodgers use social media and have a deep presence in the community because of it. They use their Facebook page to update patrons on special items of the day. They also use it to gather feedback, asking if people would want certain treats. 

“We’re finding out it is a little more valuable [in Wellman], keeping our presence up here keeps us with the people, we’re more in touch,” Andy said. 

It adds a layer of connection to the community.

“I’ve noticed the more I put something on [social media], people are like, that’s a reminder, I should go get it,” Morgan said. 

Madeline’s Coffee House is located at 821 Second St SE, Wellman and is open Tuesday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
