Wellman skating rink to get new sound system

After nearly two decades, the Wellman skating rink sound system will receive a much-needed update.

Council members approved a proposal Monday from Nate Nisly to install $4,100 worth of renovations to the current sound system. Council members said the system had become a patchwork of previous repair work and required a comprehensive upgrade to ensure a stable and modern sound.

Council members also approved a merit increase for Wellman Skate Rink Manager Brenda Reasor.

In other business, council members approved a 60-day permit for a temporary habitation vehicle parked at 204 10th Avenue. Ken Whitmer said his son had moved back to the area for employment and was actively seeking a more permanent residence. Council voted to approve the permit on payment of a $20 fee.

The city will likely scrap a worn-out Polaris Ranger used by the Public Works Department. The vehicle is past further repairs and will be replaced by a new Polaris 570 Ranger.

The city agreed to send representatives to the Clayton Energy Conference in Omaha, NE.
