The Central Lee Hawks struck first in the junior varsity contest, but Mid-Prairie answered the big play with 30 straight points in a 36-12 win on Friday.
A 63-yard touchdown put the Hawks on the scoreboard first, but Mid-Prairie answered with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Brady Weber to Blake Swart. Cobi Hersbhberger caught the 2-point pass to put Mid-Prairie ahead 8-6 and the Golden Hawks led the rest of the way.
A Landry Gingerich touchdown run and two point conversion gave Mid-Prairie a 16-6 lead at halftime, and Weber’s second touchdown pass to Swart made it 24-6.
Weber finished 13-of-19 for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Gingerich had 11 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. He caught two passes for 24 yards and returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Shay Meyers had an interception as well.
Landon Kos led the defense with 5.5 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and Junior Hoffman had four solo tackles.
Swart had five catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns and Hershberger caught three passes for 34 yards.
Lincoln Wulf carried the ball into the end zone for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
