Thomas Stephan Slockett, 78, longtime Johnson County Auditor, died suddenly Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Tom was born in Iowa City Dec. 24, 1946, the son of Fred and Charlotte (Bidwell) Slockett.
Tom grew up in Wellman and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1965, where he excelled in football and track. He was offered a full football scholarship to Dartmouth, but instead chose to attend Iowa State University to explore his interests in Aerospace Engineering. He eventually turned to Political Science with a passion for politics which led to his 36-year career as Auditor and Commissioner of Electronics and Voter Registration for Johnson County.
Tom is survived by his loving sister: Terry Slockett Freese; three nieces: Kathy (Bryan) Errico, Jesseca Slockett Freese (Steve Edwards), and Missy (Jeff) Disterhoft; two nephews: James Thomas Freese and James “Luke” (Shannon) Slockett; four beloved great nieces: Angela, Andie, Allyson, and Brynlee; three great nephews: Nate, Bryar, and Niko James; and great-great nephew: Caleb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: James Slockett; and brother-in-law: John Freese.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkside Banquet Hall in Wellman on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 2-4 pm. Powell Funeral Home is caring for Tom and his family.
