It was with great pleasure and nostalgia, watching the services for the great Senator Bob Dole from Kansas, who passed away at age 98.
It was all so emotional and gut-wrenching — from honoring him at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, his funeral, and the ceremony at the WWII Memorial. I didn’t realize how influential he was in the development of the WWII Memorial and how he would go there to greet visiting veterans on weekends.
Having the humbling privilege of having visited these sites, I was deeply moved thinking of his sacrifices, as well as the sacrifices of all our veterans.
Bob Dole was a “giant”! As a former government teacher, I followed his distinguished career for many years. He would have been a great president.
Watching Bob Dole being honored and memorialized brought home the stark contrast of true service and heroism relative to some of the so called “headliners” of today, who relish in their unabashed displays of political division and extremism.
It was so refreshing to see what a true American hero really embodies. The Bob Dole services were a great reminder of what our veterans and their loved ones have sacrificed. Thank you.
